Little Dragon and Washington D.C. duo April + VISTA have announced a new collaborative EP “Slipping Into Color”, released on Ninja Tune.
Earlier this year, the much-loved Grammy-nominated Swedish band released their latest studio album “Slugs of Love”, a sparkly suite of R&B and “deliciously off-kilter electronic pop” (The Guardian). Pitchfork noted that the album “glows with carefree, mosaic pop arrangements”, while Clash Magazine observed that “the album serves as a gentle and beautiful reminder of the importance and strength of minimalism”, with additional love for the record coming from the New York Times, Billboard, NPR, Grammy, Stereogum, FADER, Okayplayer and many more. Like their Swedish counterparts, April + VISTA excel at the artful subversion of pop norms to create a sound steeped in soul that defies easy categorisation. April George (violinist, pianist, vocalist, composer) and Matthew Thompson (producer, bassist, composer) pull from a wildly eclectic range of influences, encompassing trip-hop, R&B, jazz and indie rock.
Speaking on how the collaboration came about, Little Dragon explain: “On a recent trip to the US we got to hang with April + VISTA and we couldn’t resist their sound. This EP represents an intense week of diving deep into the musical universe together with them 🫣.” The kindred spirits spent a week together in the Dragons’ Gothenburg studio, “just creating, laughing and sharing stories. We practically lived in the studio, ate breakfast together and made noise for the rest of the day,” recalls April. “Working with Little Dragon on this EP was nothing short of a dream. It’s an experience we’ll always cherish.”
The four tracks that comprise “Slipping into Color” are swathed in a comforting blanket of saturation that bestows the whole EP with a glorious warmth and the whole thing is imbued with an enjoyable wooziness from the playfully detuned synths and ever present sub bass.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
